Graduated at USM: B.A. Elementary Education
This banker turned educator chased her dream at USM. Carmen left a decades-long career to become a teacher and earned her B.A. in Elementary Education through UVI@USM in 2024. She teaches fourth grade now and loves it.

Carmen says, "I started USM at the age of 52 , after working as a banker for over 30 years and seeing my children through college I decided to finally follow my dream of becoming an educator."

Carmen praised her instructors for helping to craft her teaching style and helping to build her up as a person.

"Each instructor in their own way impacted me as a person, not only the subject lessons they taught but also the life lessons helped shape the type of teacher I am becoming," she says

Starting your educational journey at home is a privilege more young adults should take advantage of, says Carmen who is enjoying her new career in elementary education.

Carmen says, "I have always encouraged the youngster I supervised to go to USM as it is a great way to start their journey to get a good education without leaving home. "
