Graduated at USM: B.A. Elementary Education
Marjorie is an exceptional and accomplished young woman whose career is focused on educating. She made her first strides at USM's Bachelor in Elementary Education program in 2013.

After graduating from USM, Marjorie earned a Masters in Teaching with a concentration on special education from Johnson & Wales University as well as certificates from Roger Williams University and Center for Leadership and Educational Equity in speaking to English to foreign language speakers and the K-12 administration.

Now, Marjorie works as the Director of The Advancement Academy of the Black Valley Prep program while pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at JWU.

Marjorie says, "As the Director of The Advancement Academy, I aid young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities navigate the world beyond. As my students transition from high school to the world, I support their exploration within the areas of employability, independence, every-day living, community, education, and training."

She started her career as a teachers' assistant at the Hillside Christian School while earning her bachelors then worked at Genevieve de Weever Primary School and the St. Joseph Primary School.

Marjorie took on her new role as part of the BVP team as a special education teacher after completing her master's. She then became special education chair, and special education coordinator before ascending to the role of director.

Marjorie credits USM for laying the foundation for all of her experience and skill as an educator. "USM was the stepping stone of my professional career in education. It allowed me to learn the essentials of teaching and prepared me to tackle the challenges and successes that come with a career in such field," Marjorie says.

Marjorie praised USM as a valuable institution with skilled professionals who can help bolster careers of their students and graduates. "I encourage other students to view USM as an excellent choice and not a last resort. Many times we may want to travel to obtain our education elsewhere but USM has professionals who provide an excellent level of knowledge and experience which enhance the beginning stages of the tertiary educational experience," Marjorie says.

At USM, she was in the ambassadors program and also rose to great heights in local pageantry on St. Maarten.
