Michelle graduated from the joint USM/UVI education program in 2023 and switched careers, dedicating her work and personal time to educating and nurturing children.
She says, "The University of St. Martin provided a solid foundation for my teaching career and opened up opportunities for professional growth. (then a teacher's assistant now a teacher). The overall experiences at USM has increased my confidence and teaching capabilities."

She is an educator in the island government's public school system, and she has been enjoying her new career. She plans to return to school and study for a different role in education.
"My long-term plan is to pursue a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership which is an exciting step forward. It will open up new opportunities for leadership roles in education," she says.

USM was, to Michelle, a safe, supportive environment that helped her navigate student life and prepare herself for her career change. Michelle says, "I would encourage prospective students to attend USM by emphasizing the university's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, where each student is valued and guided through their educational journey."

She holds fond memories of her instructors including the late Dorothy "Rosa" Richardson who taught at drama for years at USM. "My fondest memory of USM is attending Intro to Drama (ART 213) class, as Ms. Dorothy Richardson as the instructor," Michelle says.
"There I experienced a unique blend of creativity and expression that deeply resonated with me. The creative techniques and exercises she taught has helped me develop a more engaging teaching style."
