Josianne Fleming-Artsen

Josianne Fleming-Artsen is a St. Maartener with a well-rounded educational background. She has lived and worked most of her life on North and South St. Martin, and studied in St. Maarten, the Netherlands, and the Americas.
She holds a Bachelor degree in Education and a BA in the English language. She is a graduate of Columbia University in NY, where she earned a Master degree in Curriculum Development and a second Master in Leadership. Josianne has pursued post graduate studies in Leadership and Management at the University of Phoenix and carries the title ABD. She is a lifelong learner.
In St. Maarten, Mrs. Fleming Artsen has worked across the spectrum of education as a teacher, principal, superintendent of Methodist schools and University President; She has been the Chairperson of a school board and now serves on another Board as Treasurer, Teacher-trainer, Grants and Policy writer, and has written articles on Leadership in the Daily Herald. She is an instructor at the University of St. Martin, where she teaches Education and Business courses in the degree programs.
Her greatest joy has been working as a change agent and being an educational leader, innovating and motivating others in the educational and leadership change process taking institutions to higher heights. Josianne served her country for 3 years as Deputy and Minister Plenipotentiary. She also served the Northern side of the island as the first lady as wife of Mayor Albert Fleming for 24 years.
Mrs. Fleming Artsen is a Rotarian, and enjoys service above self. She believes in providing humanitarian service to others. In addition, she is Vice President of the Helping Hands Foundation, ensuring that the seniors are well taken care of, recently joined the CBA Foundation as treasurer and is the Managing Director of SSTA. Mrs. Fleming Artsen received distinguished awards, such as the Ghandi-King-Ikeda PEACE Award from Morehouse College in the US and was decorated by the Queen of the Netherlands for her outstanding contribution to education and the community as a whole.
