September 11, 2024

The University of St. Martin (USM) launched its highly anticipated AI short course this evening, and the atmosphere was charged with excitement. The six-week intensive promises to open doors to the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence.
Instructor Marcus Nicolaas, a leading IT expert, wasted no time diving into the course’s hands-on approach. “This is more than just theory—we’re giving people practical skills they can immediately apply,” Nicolaas said. The course is designed to help students master the art of crafting AI prompts that deliver results for both business and personal projects.

The opening session was alive with interactive discussions about AI’s potential across a variety of sectors, from healthcare and government to education and business. Nicolaas praised the group’s enthusiasm, emphasizing their eagerness not only to grasp the technical elements but also to engage with the broader ethical questions surrounding AI development.

USM’s Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Gale Rigobert, who is a strong advocate for integrating technology into the learning experience, said the course would provide immediate and long-lasting value for attendees.
"AI is a tool that can empower you to be at the forefront of innovation, both here in the Caribbean and globally,” she said, underscoring the university’s dedication to providing students with market-relevant skills.

One student said, “ I’m eager to see how I can use these skills to make a real impact.”

As USM continues to adapt its curriculum to reflect the demands of modern industries, this AI course stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve. With a small, focused class size, USM offers a personalized learning experience that allows students to thrive in an engaging environment.

Spaces are still available for those interested in joining. Classes take place every Tuesday at 7:00 PM, and the one-time fee for this transformative course is just $250. To register, email admission@usm.sx.

For USM, this course isn’t just about teaching AI—it’s about shaping the next wave of innovators and leaders who will help drive the Caribbean into the future.
