Democratic Party donates 'Claude' book to USM

On the occasion of what would have been the 98th birthday of the late Dr. Claude Wathey, on 25 July 2024, the Democratic Party (DP) donated to the University of St. Martin 10 copies of Claude, the biography written by Fabian Badejo. The DP was represented by current Minister of Finance Ms. Marinka Gumbs, who handed the kind donation to USM President Prof. dr. Antonio Carmona Báez. Present for the handing over of the biography were Manger of Finance and Operations Mr. Robert Judd, Division Head of General Liberal Arts and Education Mrs. Juliana Hodge-Shipley and USM instructor Ms. Marcellia Henry who designed and teaches the course History and Culture Heritage of St. Martin. Minister Gumbs recalled that Wathey was a co-founder the DP, as well as USM, and she expressed her desire to see the books read by USM students, who should be familiar with Sint Maarten political history. President Carmona in turn recalled that 35 years ago, Dr. Wathey and other important figures established USM to serve the people of the entire island in hopes of socio-economic and cultural advancement. The donated books will be stored at the USM Library.
