USM and Dutch Coast Guard Collaborate Kicks Off Spring 2024

The Spring 2024 program will begin on Monday, January 29, 2024, with students looking forward to the beginning of their academic and practical journey. Students are about to embark on a transformative learning experience that combines theory and real-world applications, guided by dedicated faculty.
Pond Island - On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the University of St. Martin (USM) and the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard collaborated to host the Spring 2024 program orientation event on the USM campus. The team welcomed new recruit/students and provided them with valuable information about their academic and physical journeys.

Mr. Jan van Beek, Division Head of the Associate of Arts in Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Management program and a key figure in USM's collaboration with the Dutch Coast Guard, expressed his excitement to the incoming students during the orientation.

Mr. van Beek passionately prepared the students for the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead, emphasizing the unique blend of academic and practical experiences that await them in the coming months. He said: "This partnership is a testament to our commitment to providing students with a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom”.

During the orientation, students heard from a number of USM officials, including the Dean of Academics, Dr. Rigobert, and the Acting President, Mr. Wycliffe Smith. Assistant Division Head Karen Hana, as well as other instructors from USM (Sanne Bartels, Ms. Fleming-Artsen, and Mr. Verloop), who shared valuable insights with the students, providing a comprehensive overview of the program's objectives and expectations. Present were also representatives of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard; Ms. Falbru, Mr. van Mourik and others.
