The principal mission of the University of St. Martin is to house, foster and disseminate the arts and sciences, to place knowledge at the service of the binational community and the region, and to contribute to the island's socio-economic development and sustainable living in the Caribbean.

The University of St. Martin is a forward-looking university, committed to serving as the main centre of excellence in higher education, teaching and scientific research for the people of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin and neighboring islands.

USM's Evolution

USM has come a long way since the early 1980s when it was founded as an institution to improve Mullet Bay Resort's employees' performance in collaboration with Johnson & Wales University.

In 1989, the University of St. Martin was officially inaugurated and began offering Associate degrees in Business and General Liberal Arts in addition to hospitality and tourism degrees.

Our continued growth has resulted in a more extensive offering of educational programs. Since its foundation, USM has partnered, and continues to partner, with universities across the Caribbean and the world to promote high-quality education and cutting-edge research.

Today, USM is the beacon for higher education in Sint Maarten/Saint Martin and an essential hub in a regional and global network of higher education institutions.
